Lenexa – Leland Bartel, 75, died October 22, 2018 at West Chester Village in Lenexa. He was born March 17, 1943 to Henry and Anna (Regier) Bartel at Hillsboro, Kansas. He married Carol Ewert June 14, 1963 at Johannestal Church rural Hillsboro. He was a photo technologist. Survivors include: wife, Carol Bartel of Lenexa; brothers, Monroe Bartel of Moorehead, MN, Ken Bartel of Topeka. Celebration of Life Service 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Community Covenant Church at 15700 W. 87th Pkwy Lenexa, KS. Leland R. Bartel, 75, passed away peacefully at his home in Lenexa, KS on October 22, 2018. He was born in Hillsboro, Kansas on March 17, 1943 to Henry F. and Anna (Regier) Bartel.
His early years were spent at the family farm and attending a small country grade school. He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1961 and later attended Tabor College in Hillsboro.
On June 14, 1963 he married Carol Ewert and they moved to Topeka, KS. After a couple of years they moved to Colorado where he attended National Camera Repair School in Englewood. After graduating he became an instructor at the school and a technical writer and photographer for the Society of Photo Technologists Journal.
They lived in Colorado for 10 years and then returned to Kansas where he owned and operated his own business, Camera Repair Service, in downtown Overland Park for over 30 years.
He enjoyed travel and photographing nature. Leland and Carol were able to visit all 50 states and they especially enjoyed the National Parks. He also prepared slide presentations for churches, schools and family events. In addition, gardening provided much enjoyment for him and he kept their yard beautifully landscaped.
He was an active member of Community Covenant Church of Lenexa.
Survivors include his wife Carol of 55 years; brothers Monroe, Moorhead, MN and Kenneth (Ann), Topeka, KS and many nieces, nephews and friends.
