Lee Roy Leppke

Lee Roy Leppke passed away peacefully into the presence of the Lord on June 13, 2018 in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta,Canada. He was born in rural Hillsboro, Kansas on December 15, 1929 to Carl and Lizzie Litke Leppke.  He was raised on the farm were he was born near Hillsboro and attended Ebenfeld Grade School.  He had two older brothers, Marvin and Kenneth and one older sister Lucille.


The family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico the spring of 1945 due to the health of his mother.  Lee Roy attended high school in Albuquerque.


On a cold November, 1970, Lee Roy moved to Rocky Mountain House in Alberta, Canada and resided there until his death. From 1970 to 1979 he worked doing finish carpentry and general construction.  He enjoyed being a craftsman and getting it just right!  In 1979 he bought his first backhoe and was soon fully engaged in providing backhoe service around Rocky until he retired in 1996.  He enjoyed moving mountains of dirt, lots of tree stumps and large rocks.  He drove many roads in his gravel truck and dug many a trench during those years.  He loved traveling to many places including, Hawaii, Panama Canal, Mexico, Jamaica, Alaska, the Amazon River and a number of fishing trips.  He enjoyed going to the coffee shop for morning and afternoon coffee and meeting with friends.  He enjoyed traveling south during the winter and seeing family.  He attended the Cowboy Church and greatly enjoyed the people and the times there.


Lee Roy is survived by his four children, Gaylynn Smalley, Tucson, AZ, a home care specialist, Ron Leppke, Tallahassee, FL, a construction worker, Phillip (April) Leppke, missionary’s in Guam and Laurel Leppke, Clovis, NM, employed by the USPS, and his 9 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, his brother Kenneth (Carla) Leppke of Albuquerque, NM and sister, Lucille Leppke Klassen of Hillsboro, KS.   Lee Roy was pre-deceased by his parents and brother, Marvin in 1980.


A Celebration of Life service was held on June 19, 2018 in Rocky Mountain House.


Burial will be Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Ebenfeld Church Cemetery, rural Hillsboro, KS.  Following the graveside service there will be time to meet with the family in the church fellowship hall.  Online Condolences at www.jostfuneralhome.com
