Irvin Reimer

Irvin Reimer age 94 of Goessel, Kansas passed away November 24, 2016 at Bethesda Home. He was born April 7, 1922 in Marion County Kansas at the family home to Abraham U and Katarina (Buller) Reimer. Irvin attended Pleasant Valley grade school and Goessel High School graduating in May, 1941. On August 22, 1946 he married Edna Friesen at First Mennonite Church in Hillsboro, Kansas.

Irvin and his brothers took over the family farm following the death of their father in 1932.

Irvin’s great love was singing and playing his harmonica. As children, Irvin and his sister Norma sang duets at home and at family gatherings. Irvin enjoyed singing in the church choir and the men’s chorus, and was a member of the Kansas Mennonite Men’s Chorus from inception in 1969 until 2003 when he suffered a stroke.

Irvin spent 30 years at the Hesston Corporation and served as the chairman of the Hesston union. He was on the national board of Mennonite Disaster Service, Akron, Pennsylvania, and served as Director of Region III. As a member of Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher, and usher.

Irvin cared for his neighbors worldwide and spent much of his retirement volunteering with MDS and Habitat for Humanity. He spent eight months building a church for the Northern Cheyenne in Lame Deer Montana. Irvin and his wife Edna enjoyed traveling with their fifth wheel until his stroke in March, 2003. In July, 2005 he moved to Goessel and then in June, 2007 to Bethesda Home.

Irvin is survived by his son Howard (Linda) Reimer of Ritzville, Washington; and, a grandson Aaron (Amy) Reimer of Reardan, Washington. Preceding him in death were his wife Edna and daughter Susann; his parents; brothers Arthur, Walt, and Rudolf; and, sisters Martha, Alice, Margaret, Norma and Elda.

Memorial Service will be held Friday, December 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church, Goessel, Kansas with fellowship meal to follow. Private Inurnment.
