Life Sketch Taken From the Funeral Bulletin

Floyd Vernon Miller was born January 24, 1926 on a farm 1 ½ miles east of Durham, Kansas to John and Hanna (Hein) Miller.  He attended Durham grade school.  He left high school to help his dad on the farm.

On March 7, 1948 he married Aileen Deem at the Methodist Church in Halstead, Kansas.  They began married life together on a farm east of Durham and were blessed with four children; Kathy, Linda, Gayleen and Alan.

In the spring of 1949, Floyd was baptized in a creek east of Durham and became a member of the Durham Church of God.  There he served as Sunday School Secretary, usher and a church trustee.  He also worked many hours helping remodel the church.  Attending church was very important to Floyd.

In 1987, after 40 years of farming, they moved to Hillsboro, Kansas.  Floyd became a member of the Hillsboro United Methodist Church in 1989.  There he served as Men’s Fellowship President, usher and church trustee.  Floyd was always willing to help wherever needed.

In 1991, he became a member of the Hillsboro Lions Club.  His membership of five years allowed him time to meet and visit with new people while serving his community.

His favorite pastime was attending high school basketball games.  When he could no longer attend, he continued to follow local sports through the media. Floyd and Aileen loved traveling to many different states while visiting family along the way.   Another favorite of Floyd’s was coffee time with the men at McDonald’s.  Floyd always enjoyed visiting.

In January of 2016, Floyd enjoyed his 90th birthday party with family and friends.  On March 7, 2017 the couple celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, sister Virginia Miller, brother LaVern Miller and sister-in-law Margaret Miller.

His family, grandchildren (9)  and great grandchildren (15) were very important to Floyd.   Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his wife, Aileen of the home, Kathy and Kirby Rector, Linda and Wayne Friesen, Gayleen and Frank Rockers and Alan and Esther Miller.

Floyd’s kind heart and quick smile will never be forgotten.
