Life Sketch Taken From the Funeral Bulletin

Calvin Dale Schmidt was born June 18, 1952 to Ruben R. and Laurinda (Nickel) Schmidt. He attended Centennial, Liberty and Moundridge High Schools. He passed away on September 25, 2018. He was 66 years old.

Calvin moved to St. Louis, Missouri in the late 60’s. He worked at Chrysler for 34 years and practiced Marital Arts. He was married to Mary Simmonds and she passed away August 24, 2010.

He loved animals. Calvin had two Yorkies, Spanky and Sady, while living in St. Louis. When Mary was in the hospital, Sady was just a pup and Calvin could carry her in his pocket to see Mary. One day, Sady peeked out of his shirt and the nurses saw her. The nurses told Calvin that he couldn’t bring animals into the hospital, so Sady had to stay home with Spanky from then on.

Calvin moved back to Kansas in 2011. He lived in a camper on his niece and her husband’s place by Peabody, Kansas. From there he moved onto his sister and brother-in-law’s place between Hillsboro and Marion, Kansas before buying his own place just a mile from them in Canada, Kansas. He lost Spanky and Sady, so his niece, Rochelle found a Cheweenie pup where they lived in Brighton, Illinois. When Lester and Donna went to Brighton to visit their daughter and her family they brought the pup home for Calvin. He decided to call her Chee. Chee was by his side at his passing. Calvin also took care of many horses and donkeys.

Calvin is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, his wife, Mary, brother in laws, a niece and nephew, and cousins. He is survived by five sisters, one brother and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
